Photo Point 159

Photo:

The dominant species are Ponderosa pine, silverleaf oak, and Ceanothus, with june grass common in the understory of this lightly burned slope in LTA 156. Manzanita is rare. On cool north slopes, this LTA is a pine and doug fir forest of 15 m trees with over 60% cover and an open understory. At the other extreme, the warm SE facing slopes can be dense mats of 2-3 m tall silverleaf oak, with a scatter of ponderosa. At its lowest elevations, alligator juniper and bear grass are common associates.
