Pinus ponderosa

Variety ponderosa is three-needled; however, it is often used here to include the five-needled variety arizonica, which is also recognized by many as a distinct species. In this study, a tree identified as P. ponderosa may be either five-needled or three-needled; a tree identified as P. arizonica is five-needled.
