Steve Plevel Bio

Steve has spent fifty plus years working in natural resource management with the past 35 years spent in Tucson.  From 1979 to 1991 he was the District Ranger on the Santa Catalina District, Coronado National Forest.  Steve retired in 1994 after more than 30 years with the US Forest Service and started consulting in natural resource planning and management with an emphasis in wildland-urban interface issues.  His main focus has been on fire’s role in the ecosystem, fire suppression, and the use of fire as a tool.  This includes working with communities to prepare and implement Community Wildfire Protection Plans and to help them gain Firewise recognition.  Another focus has been to make emergency management systems more effective.

For the last several years training government agencies, organizations and individuals in natural resource management, wildland-urban interface management, emergency management and organizational development has taken on more importance.

Steve recieved a B.S. in Forest Management in 1960 from Michigan State University and a M.S. in Renewable Natural Resources Studies, with an emphasis in public policy and communications, in 1996 from the University of Arizona.
