Here, where the trail drops steeply to Novio Spring, the vegetation changes quickly from mixed conifer to pine-oak. All but the summit of Bigelow was touched by the Aspen fire. The shaded slope to the right is now dominated by Ceanothus, silverleaf and netleaf oak, with associated alligator juniper and bear grass. The far slope in the sun is Douglas fir and oak.
