Description:
ELT 125a, looking north from 9100 feet atop Mt. Lemmon.
The 2003 Aspen Burn was a crown fire a mere 100 meters south of here, yet only the ground litter burned at this more mesic site. Doug fir is the clear dominant, with 40-60% cover. Ranging from 1-14% cover are Ponderosa and SW white pine, aspen, and white fir. In October of 2008, the abundant bracken ferns are beginning to brown. Common shrubs include Holodiscus (rock spirea), Heracleum (cow parsnip), and Symphoricarpos (snowberry).
