Photo Point 059
Description:
Near Gardner Mt., Little Rincons.
The banana yucca in the foreground, as well as the bear grass on the midground ridge, are on a small lens of granodiorite that underlies the sedimentary formations in the background. The latter is more typical of this LTA: relatively sparse vegetation, with even the north faces supporting few oaks. The redberry juniper is far more common. Saguaros are present but uncommon on south-facing slopes.

NOTE: this LTA is mostly sedimentary rocks, yet the photo captures a scene from a small inclusion of decomposed granitics - atypical. The mariola noted here is actually uncommon in the photo, but is common on nearby limestones. |
